My first day at home:
It was good to be back outside, in the real outside; nature, they call it here.
Pruned some of our Japanese Maples that have somehow grown 10 feet since the last time I’ve seen them. Swept off the old trampoline, did some jumping and realized I’m no longer a kid.
The swing-set next to our trampoline has all but been taken over by a lone Kiwi plant…(imagine a grape vines on steroids).
In the front yard there were more than 50 monarch butterfly caterpillars eating some strange weed/vine that was growing through our bushes; they were ignoring all of our flowers and other bushes. Smart caterpillars.
Came back inside for some barbequed pork, salad, strawberries, mmmm….and a Fat Tire Ale even! And now it’s pouring rain (and any hope for having a summer harvest of peaches and cherries and apricots is washing downstream with it).

So, can I still come over? And get a ride with you? Incidentally, I notice that you don't mention training on your list of activities.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, I highly recommend getting a bokken. I've been swinging mine around for less than a week, and now the shinai feels really light. I still can't flick it like a flyswatter, but I have a feeling that the snapping motion is partly facilitated by rebounding off the opponent's sword anyway.
I recently ordered a suburito (basically an oversized, heavier bokken); I'm gonna' go for the one-handed swashbuckling style.
hey Geoff. Good to hear you're home. We should all get together for cards sometime. -Cody
