Working the Fields

Today I started my outdoors indenturement. I'm being paid though, so I can't complain too much. It's actually really great. For all the hours I spent in the library reading, writing, studying...it's really nice to be taking care of trees. These are redwoods. There are probably 20 of them. And I need to dig out the bases to form nice, little, circular-mounds around all of them. I feel like this will make up for my lack of sword practice; didn't Mr. Miagi make Daniel plant a bonsai one time? Same thing. This is a Chinese Pistachio (don't let the name fool you, it doesn't actually produce the nut...I don't understand why anybody would want to make a non-nut producing pistachio tree...so sad). I never really liked the tree until today, there's another one next to it on the left, so it's makes a neat little entryway unto the redwoods. You might not be able to tell from this, but those are clouds in the sky. It actually rained. Must take more

Its been a while

It’s been a while.   Hard to imagine that I’ve been done with school for a month.  I somehow feel like life never slowed down, as I had planned for.  Maybe that’s when you know you’re getting old.   It’s nice to be back home with family, and the few friends still around.  And it’s nice to be back in my room, even if the piles of books are threatening to topple over and crush me in my sleep.   Speaking of books, I just finished Alan Moore’s Watchmen . (Thank you Danny)  I’m still coming off the effects of finishing it, so all I can say now is: read it.  You’ll thank yourself.
